Why Zerodha Console shows different numbers

Zerodha Console shows your purchase price as an average of all your buy transactions. But Indian tax law requires the FIFO (First-In, First-Out) method.

Example

You bought Reliance at Rs 2,000 (Jan 2024) and Rs 2,500 (Jun 2024). Zerodha Console shows an average cost of Rs 2,250.

But when you sell, the first lot (Rs 2,000) is sold first under FIFO — giving a different (often higher) taxable gain than what Console suggests.

TaxHarvestLab recalculates everything from your tradebook using FIFO, so you see the actual tax impact before you sell.
